IJN Haruna was a battlecruiser and later battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War I and World War II. The ship was named after Mount Haruna in Gunma Prefecture, Japan.
Haruna was active in several battles during the Pacific War, including the Battle of Singapore, Battle of Midway, and Battle of the Philippine Sea. The ship was also involved in escorting Japanese troop convoys and bombarding Allied positions.
Haruna was heavily damaged by American carrier planes during the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June 1944, but managed to make it back to Japan for repairs. However, the ship was unable to participate in any further battles due to a lack of fuel and logistical support.
After the war, Haruna was surrendered to the United States Navy and used as a target for nuclear testing in Bikini Atoll in 1946. The ship survived the initial bomb blast but was later sunk by naval gunfire.
